What Is ASBMB?

The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization rooted from the American Physiological Society. ASBMB’s mission is to advance the science of biochemistry and molecular biology through publication of scientific and educational journals, organization of scientific meetings, advocacy for funding of basic research and education, support of science education at all levels, and promotion of the diversity of individuals entering the scientific workforce.

About Our Chapter

The purpose of the ASBMB UMD Student Affiliates Chapter is to promote the overall goals of the national organization by hosting seminars with guest speakers (e.g., physicians, biologists, biochemists, professors, employers, government officials, etc.), organizing networking and community outreach events, and sending members to the national ASBMB meetings.

About

Professional Seminars

To instill professionalism and a heart for service to all our members and foster an awareness of the benefits and drawbacks of multiple careers in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology, our chapter hosts seminars featuring speakers from many specialized areas both on and off-campus.

Socializing events

At the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, UMD chapter, you will have a chance to take a break and meet like-minded people. We also welcome different majors to gather at events such as make-your-own ice cream, scavenger hunt, jeopardy, and fundraiser at local restaurants.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our chapter commits to support science at all levels by introducing and expanding our service outside classroom. We partner with Lakeland STARs and ACS College Park Academy Tutoring to turn science into positive experience to kids at all ages. Come join us as we celebrate Mole day, Maryland day, and so much more!
