Today, our chapter had a chance to host the science demo again for the kids from Lakeland STARs program. They got to test the acidity and basicity of five household solutions using pH strips, learned about supercooled water, and performed paper chromatography with paper towel and Skittles or M&M (yes, we have several potential analytical chemist-to-be here!).
After the demo, we gladly welcomed Chris Ma - founder of ASBMB student chapter, former president, and UMD alumni - to share with us his story and research project on invading mechanism of hepatitis C virus. His ultimate goal is to attend medical school and become a pulmonologist (doctor who is specialized in lungs disease) (Chris is standing in the middle of the picture).
Our next GBM will be on March 28th in the same room, CHM1402 at 6:30pm. To get an idea of what to expect, please follow the link (Links to an external site.)to our tentative schedule. Thanks and hope to see you all in two weeks!
